Kathy Miler Southwest Regional Competition – Quad Pawed results
t was an exciting Memorial weekend for disc doggers competing in the Skyhoundz Southwest Regional and Kathy Miller Memorial Competitions. The weather again was perfect for the dogs at high 60’s and with some moderate wind. Saturday’s event was the Skyhoundz Regional where the top competitors are world class performers and WOWED us with their high flying freestyle routines. Competition was close and the Distance/Accuracy was the event that will make you or break you. Sunday’s event was a fun day with four different events dealing with how well you can throw the disc and how well you communicate with the dog. This event was designed for anybody to win and many of the novices and juniors showed the big boy world competitors that they are not always the top dog.
As always it take a lot of work to have a 2 day competition and if it was not for these following people this event could not happen.
Special thanks to Mike Miller for setting up the field and EZ ups, MC and night watchman; Becky for ins the event, registration, coordinating with Skyhoundz for all the needed awards and discs; Kristi for the competitors line up and maintaining all the scoring thru out the days and coming up with the final top dogs; Cheryl and Marla for registration and hospitality planning; Val for registration and help organizing the Quad Paws line up; The Sattler Family (Brad, Jaeleen, Bradley and Nicole) for their great MC duty; Robert S., Tom Clarke (not a club member but should be with all the times we ask to help), Alan K., Todd, Connie Barlow(non club member), and Brad for judging; Brad and Bradley for being the music men; Bruce and Alan K for set up the sound system; Bruce and Kriste for the up date on our website, and I know there are more that I forgot because I too was way to busy with this event.
So next time you go to one of these event just say “Thank You” to one of the coordinators like Dave P said to me. It nice to hear the appreciation for all the hard work this club has being giving out to the disc dog community. If you think this club is racking in the $$$, think again. We are lucky to break even and we all work for free so we can play with our dogs. And if you think running a competition is easy, please do run a competition so I and this club can finally relax and enjoy the day with our dogs. If you missed this event, then you missed all the fun, especially all those poor dogs that wanted to come but their owners were too busy. At the end of the competition we were all tried and the printer crashed, so we tried to calculate the total score for all four events but somehow the top five overall competitors were cut off from the printer and we awarded the top 6th, 7th and 8th as the top overall winner. Our apologies to George, Sketch and Bella for this error and have reordered the awards to be presented to the top three dogs for Sunday’s event. We hope all the competitors had fun and special thanks to all the out of towners from Arizona, NorCal and Nevada for traveling the distance just to play with their dogs.
Thanks for your supporting D2ISC and K9 Air Corp in the Kathy Miller Memorial Event.
Hope to see you at our next event, UFO in Cypress at Arnold Park, check out website, www.d2isc.com for info. Following that will be our USDDN Qualifier July 23, also at Arnold Park.
